NO NOVA CASINO
We Don’t Want A Casino In Fairfax County
Big corporate developers are planning to build a massive 24/7 casino in Tysons. We can’t let this happen.
A casino in Tysons would drive even more traffic congestion to our area – bringing thousands more vehicles to our roadways and cut-through traffic through local neighborhoods – while also exacerbating our growing affordable housing crisis.
We need to stop lawmakers and big corporate developers from passing legislation during Virginia’s General Assembly session that would enable construction of a casino in Fairfax County.
Casino Location.
The big corporate developer is looking at a location in Tysons along Metro’s Silver Line.
How Will This Impact Me?
As well as:
- Put additional stress on affordable housing in our areas
- The disruption of local communities and stress on community services and resources
- Exacerbate the existing workforce shortage
What Are Others Saying?
Opposition to this proposed casino is growing – clearly, this is not a development that Fairfax County residents want or need.
“They have not talked with me about it. I oppose putting a casino on the Silver Line and Comstock should be aware of my position on that, it has not changed since I first became aware of casino interest in the Dulles corridor late last year. The land around these stations is already valuable for so many other socially beneficial uses, and plopping a casino into these emerging transit oriented development communities during their formative years is a bad idea.”
Walter Alcorn, Hunter Mill District Supervisor
“Many members of MCA are concerned about this initiative. Accordingly, the MCA Board has voted to express its opposition to legislation that would allow a gaming casino in Fairfax County.”
Linda Walsh, President, McLean Citizens Association
“The Town of Vienna opposes any action to establish, or facilitate the establishment of, any gambling casino in Fairfax County. The Town particularly opposes any such action which would lead to the establishment of a gambling facility in the Tysons area. Any such facility likely would have substantial deleterious effects on the quality of life in Vienna, including increased traffic, additional costs to locally owned independent businesses, and erosion of public morals.”
Chuck Anderson, Vienna Town Councilmember
“Reston Citizens Association in the strongest possible terms opposes development, approval or construction of any casinos in Fairfax County. No issue has generated such wide-spread and passionate opposition by citizens from every corner of Fairfax County and all walks of life.”

“The Rotonda Board of Directors and many of our residents are outraged that the State legislature would unilaterally move ahead on such a proposal without first consulting Tysons-based residents and businesses… Establishing a casino in Tysons goes against the core values of the Fairfax County Comprehensive Plan for Tysons and will bring a host of undesirable elements into what is otherwise quickly developing into a pedestrian-friendly urban area.”
Rotonda Condominium Unit Owners Association
In recent polling of residents, public sentiment has shown similar opposition. GS Strategy Group (GSG) conducted a survey among 250 likely Tysons area voters from December 4-11, 2023.

More than 61 percent of Tysons voters said that they would strongly oppose it.

60 percent of Tysons voters agree that a casino would put stress on the limited availability of affordable housing in the area. **
By nearly a five-to-one ratio (56 percent to eight percent) Tysons voters said they would be less likely to vote for an elected official who supports construction of a casino in Fairfax county.
